Friday night, Brett and I drove up to Shelby, Michigan to meet up with Jer and Kait to stay overnight at his aunt's cottage. It was just past Stony Lake and down this long private drive with all of these other cottages right on Lake Michigan. It was so nice and awesome we were able to stay there! We got there and drove out to Stony Lake's little mini-mart, to pick up a few groceries for the evening and for breakfast. We got a few groceries (super expensive and weirdo foods!) and left to go back to the cottage. When we asked the girl there if there was a Meijer or some kind of grocery store around, there was literally nothing unless you drove all the way back to Muskegon. I could never live out there with no grocery store! We went back to the cottage, watched some television, but just mostly chatted all night, which was really fun. That cottage was great to just sit around and relax and hang out with good friends.

The next morning, Brett and I woke up to a view of the lake, with huge waves crashing on Lake Michigan because of the wind. It was super windy and gray and kind of drizzly which was a bummer, but it all turned out to be really fun nonetheless. We got up, made eggs and waffles for breakfast, got dressed and ready. We took a really long walk through the dunes after that.
We got all the way to the top and the views were awesome! To the east, it was all farmland and super green, and if you looked west it was all dunes and Lake Michigan. We ran down the hill and walked back to the cottage, to spend our afternoon relaxing in the living room and taking super long naps (so relaxing and amazing!) We found a monarch caterpillar, so we caught it,
and I made a cage for it. I named him Dill, and I brought him home so I can watch him create a cocoon and turn into a monarch butterfly!

We drove into Shelby's little main street for dinner, and ate dinner at The Pizza Depot which didn't even accept credit cards. Everyone knew each other in there too. It was crazy; we were cracking up at some of the locals. The pizza actually turned out really good and it was fun. We drove back to the cottage, packed up our stuff, cleaned up the apartment and headed back to Grand Haven. Super great time, although summer has officially left us. Oh well, classes start Monday and summer is over for me. Great way to end the summer. <3
