Gun Lake Fireworks

So last night was absolutely amazing. Completely unexpected, but great. I drove to Grand Rapids to see Brett. Brett, Peter and I walked to Martha's vineyard, then hung around until we had to pick Damian up from work.

We picked him up and drove to Gun Lake to see the fireworks. We got there, took a walk and went to the store to get some food. We came back and ate dinner and then sat around for a bit talking. We took chairs down by the water and waited for the fireworks. Brett and I sat on the dock for a little bit and talked. The atmosphere of the sky was just amazing, I wish I would have gotten a picture of it. But the vibe was just amazing. I felt like I was supposed to be there. Like everything is alright and is going to be better. The fireworks were great and I had a lot of fun.

We had to drive the convertible home and Brett and I sat in the back and the top was down. It was an absolute blast. We were listening to oldies music. Brett and I cuddled, held hands and kissed a couple times. It was amazing. And I know this sounds completely corny, but I've never seen a shooting star before in my life and I saw one last night. I was like, "Brett! I saw one! Did you see it?" and he said yes.

4th Anniversary

    Dear punk,

Happy 4th anniversary! I cannot believe it has already been four years. Time is flying by and I have to admit each year gets better and better. I made the best decision of my life by marrying my best friend - you. I've been on all of my best adventures in life with you... and I can't wait for all of the adventures we'll have in our future together. You saw me when no one else did and took a chance on crazy little Tiek. I couldn't be more in love or more grateful for our life together.

You da best! Namashna. Don't let those bed bugs biteadsfasdafjk;.

    Love always,
    Your wife,
    Tiekster

Coast Guard City

Last night, Brett and I headed downtown to set out our blanket for fireworks. The streets are lined with carnival rides, games and food. Ships sail into town for tours and we have the best fireworks display for the Coast Guard Festival! The locals head out a day early and set their blankets out on the grass. Neat, right?

We caught the most beautiful sunset when we were down there. It only lasted for about 15 minutes and was gone but it was so amazing! We grabbed some ice-cream, walked around the carnival and sat out on our blanket for a while watching the musical fountain. Ugh, I just adore summer.

I didn't even plan it, but this dress actually goes very well with the sky! I received it from Jupe Boutique and it's a perfect go-to summer dress. It almost looks like a floral pattern, but it's more like bursts of color! Almost like a fun painting or something!

Tomorrow is the big grand parade that goes right past our apartment! We have a BBQ in the front yard with lots of friends and family coming. Our downstairs neighbors also have people and it's just a huge party. Then we all hang out for the day until the big fireworks extravaganza tomorrow night! Eee!

Fallasburg Village

Last weekend, Brett and I headed out to Fallasburg Village! For my birthday, he bought me an amazing book full of Michigan day-trips and weekend excursions. Plus a huge mounted map of Michigan so we can put pins in all of the places we've explored together! I was perusing the book and came across a "ghost town" just fifteen minutes outside the city, so we had to check it out!

We explored the Fallasburg Covered Bridge and just east of the bridge is the historic village! I was expecting to come out on the other side of the bridge and see abandoned homes, wreckage, lawns overgrown, but apparently some people still live in a couple of the houses! They have opened the schoolhouse and two other homes as museum sites. The village really does retain much of the rural charm it must have had almost two hundred years ago though!

My favorite weekend summer outfit... a loose fitting t-shirt, a longer length skirt and a pair of comfy flats! We've had hot weather lately and sometimes it's just exhausting to dress up in the heat. When we were exploring the village, we found this rope tied to a tree which, of course, kept us entertained for a while. I really can't describe our marriage. On one hand, we're an old married couple that goes on lighthouse tours... on the other hand, we are so easily amused by little kid things (like a rope dangling from a tree). Best of both worlds, perhaps?

I'm going to highlight every place we've explored in this book, so hopefully at some point in my life, the entire book is highlighted. Wouldn't that be neat? Thank you all for the amazing birthday wishes. I can't believe I didn't do a post to celebrate, but I've just been so swamped lately. Summer is such a busy time. I can't believe it's already August. If you haven't already, be sure to check out the cute drive-in video with Brett and I!

Black Star Farms

I found out how small the world really is on our northern Michigan trip! We planned this trip very last minute and didn't book hotels ahead of time. With Cherry Festival, everything was booked! So, I sent out a tweet asking if anyone knew of any open hotels! I got a tweet back from a reader saying a place had a last minute cancellation and we should contact them. So I sent the inn a tweet! It turns out the marketing director of Black Star Farms is a fan of my blog and the Delightful Dozen blog! Thanks to a super generous offer, she booked us a room and made it possible for Brett and I to stay there! We couldn't have been more thrilled!

It was located in beautiful Suttons Bay, off the most wonderful winding, country roads. Brett and I were shocked when we pulled up to the inn, checked in and walked into our room. The inn itself was amazing - everything from the red and white trim, to the landscaping, the grounds, the fountains. The atmosphere was just so relaxing! Our room, Polaris, was incredible. We had our own private parking, the bed was massive, the bathroom had a jacuzzi tub and was stocked full of Aveda products. I was so excited. You guys know how much I love my Aveda products! Haha!

Our room was just off from the main foyer with a beautiful grand staircase and a black star (their namesake star) on the marble floors. There was a parlor with a bar and a library. As soon as we walked in, they were having courtesy hour with free appetizers and wine!

Brett and I left for the evening to grab dinner in Historic Fishtown, but when we came back, we explored the grounds at night. We went into the parlor and opened the mini-fridge and saw a bottle of wine with our name on it. How cool is that? So we sat out on the front rocking chairs and sipped wine! We were cracking up because we're just a young married couple, but it was one of those experiences you'll look back on and remember for years to come!

As soon as we sat down in the breakfast parlor the next morning, they knew exactly who we were without even asking! They placed Brett's vegetarian dish in front of him and mine in front of me. It was surreal... and everything was incredible. We ate every last bite.

Before we left for the day, we explored the grounds, sat and watched all of the farm animals for a while, explored the wine tasting room, took a walk along their trail and made sure to seek out their treehouse! Thanks to Black Star Farms and Coryn for making this trip possible! We had the most amazing time... and we'll definitely go back and relive this whole experience someday!
