Gun Lake Fireworks

So last night was absolutely amazing. Completely unexpected, but great. I drove to Grand Rapids to see Brett. Brett, Peter and I walked to Martha's vineyard, then hung around until we had to pick Damian up from work.

We picked him up and drove to Gun Lake to see the fireworks. We got there, took a walk and went to the store to get some food. We came back and ate dinner and then sat around for a bit talking. We took chairs down by the water and waited for the fireworks. Brett and I sat on the dock for a little bit and talked. The atmosphere of the sky was just amazing, I wish I would have gotten a picture of it. But the vibe was just amazing. I felt like I was supposed to be there. Like everything is alright and is going to be better. The fireworks were great and I had a lot of fun.

We had to drive the convertible home and Brett and I sat in the back and the top was down. It was an absolute blast. We were listening to oldies music. Brett and I cuddled, held hands and kissed a couple times. It was amazing. And I know this sounds completely corny, but I've never seen a shooting star before in my life and I saw one last night. I was like, "Brett! I saw one! Did you see it?" and he said yes.

Binder Park Zoo

This past weekend, we headed down to Battle Creek to go to Binder Park Zoo! I had never been before and it was a lot of fun. We have a really great zoo in our city, but sometimes it's nice to experience a new place! This zoo had tons of walking trails and you could take a train to get to certain parts! We went with our good friends, Jesse & Taylor, and just had a simple, fun day at the zoo!

We were able to purchase lettuce to feed to the giraffes! It was so crazy how their tongues stretched out to get their food! Brett got drooled on. It was super fun. It was definitely the highlight of our trip! I always really love the monkey exhibits though. My favorite animal at the zoo is the gorilla. Binder Park Zoo didn't have any gorillas though. Bummer! I think the next zoo I want to check out is Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago!

I kept it very simple with my outfit. It was pretty warm outside and I wanted to wear flats for walking all day. I received this dress via the Delightful Dozen. It's Starr's and I'll be doing a post soon with how each of us have styled it up so far! It's just a perfect, striped summer dress that is easy to throw on and feel comfortable. I felt super odd without a belt though. Haha!

I made a fun little video for our day at the zoo, so I hope you enjoy that! I absolutely love taking and editing video. It's definitely something I want to get more into as soon as some of my time frees up. I feel constantly busy. I cannot believe we're coming up on the 4th of July. If I blink a few more times, summer will be over!

    Outfit details:
    J. Crew dress via Delightful Dozen
    Keeping Tally Cardigan c/o ModCloth
    Urban Outfitters flats
    Urban Outfitters bag
    Forever 21 sunglasses

Old town

A couple of weekends ago, I went to visit my darling friend, Andrea, in Lansing! We had a little sleepover, chatted in bed, woke up to go shopping and grab lunch - exactly what we do best! I love staying at her place. It's just so perfect - an urban loft setting with no cat hair. Ugh, I envy that girl. We headed over to Urban Outfitters and I bought a couple of things! We also headed over to Forever 21, where I performed more damage. I actually bought some winter items though instead of spring which is nice because we still have like... 2 more months of harsh winter!

I felt like going casual for a day out shopping. Plus, it has been so cold lately that I'm alway stuck in an oversized cardigan. This one was only $2 thrifted! I really need to head over to Goodwill and do some more thrifting this upcoming weekend. I've been buying so many items for spring.. ugh, I cannot wait. The transitional seasons are the best time to style up outfits!

    tights - target | jeffrey campbell lace wedge heel - c/o lulu*s)

So, I scored $80 worth of services from our local Douglas J. Aveda institute today for only $40 via Groupon! I was so excited. I'm going to save it until I get down to my half way weight loss goal - which is really only 5 pounds away. As soon as I get there, I'm going to treat myself to an elemental nature facial, haircut and style and brow wax. I've never had a facial before and they give you all sorts of massages to go along with it. It's definitely making me work harder at getting to my goal!

The Dierolf's 4th Annual Christmas Party!

Friday night, Brett and I held our 4th annual Christmas party! We had it at our friend Jeremy's house instead of our apartment this year. The majority of our friends live in the city, so it just seemed better. I work there, so it was super easy to just head there after work and get ready for the party. Plus, I don't care if people spill things on Jeremy's carpet. Hahaha, I'm evil. ;]

Since my Christmas spirit is non-existent this year, I didn't even dress up! I wore some black jeans and a flannel, ordered pizza for food instead of cooking and the only reason Jeremy's house was decorated was because my amazing husband showed up with tons of decorations. Thank goodness someone is feeling the holiday season this year! I mean, look at that sweater.. you really have to be feeling Christmas to wear that ugo thing!

I really did have a great time though. It was probably the best out of the four we've had - maybe it was because I didn't put so much time and energy into it to have fun? I don't know. It's been a super fun tradition - something we've done every single year since we've been married. I want to carry on the tradition for years. I can't believe next year will be the 5th annual. That's just insane.

There was definitely some male nudity (my husband was way too classy to participate) and some down-right belly laughs. That picture of Peter seriously cracks me up - we all had tears from laughing. We did our white-elephant exchange and I ended up with this horrendous golf-bag trash can with three boxes of mac & cheese. Haha! So awful.

So yeah, super great party this year. We have the best group of friends. I have so much fun. It's been really great because I've never really had a "group of friends" before that were all friends for years, so it's refreshing to stay friends with the same people and all watch each other change and get older. I wouldn't change these people for the world. Now I'm super excited to spend new year's eve with friends. I can't believe how soon the holidays are! Jeez!

Hayrides and corn mazes

Yesterday was the perfect autumn day! I know I say this all the time, but we have been so blessed with such amazing weather so far this season. I'm in love. We headed out to Fruit Ridge for their corn maze and hayride! I loved it. We waited in line first for their apple harvest homemade donuts.. oh my gosh. Heaven! They were so amazing with hot cider!

I had never been to this place before and I was pleasantly surprised! Everything felt so fall there - loved it. First, we did their 15-acre corn maze, the most challenging in the area. There were mailboxes everywhere like a little scavenger hunt where you paper hole punched your card. We got every one but two! We went with our friends, Peter, Jeremy and Kait. It's funny - I never realized that I don't post much about our friends on the blog - but they are all so amazing. We've all been friends for years.

After the corn maze, Brett played in a giant pile of hay and we waited in line for the hayride. I was a little disappointed that the hayride didn't actually have hay on the ride, but was instead benches on a wagon, but it was still fun! The sky was super overcast for a second and it felt like it was going to storm, but then the sun peaked back out!

(perusing bodleian long navy cardigan - c/o shop ruche | tights - urban outfitters
    oxford - target | coloring book dress - c/o lulu*s)

They stopped the hayrides at a little pumpkin patch where you could pick your own pumpkin if you wanted to! So cute. I loved this place. Afterwards, we got back to their farm area and fed the goats and llamas corn feed we stole from the corn maze. I loveee doing stuff like this. It's so corny, but yet so fun. It's the kind of stuff your parents make you do when you're little you know? That's why I think Brett and I are ready for kids, but yet so not ready at the same time. Haha!

Fourth of July

Fourth of July weekend was such a wonderful summer weekend full of scooting, swimming in Lake Michigan, beach time, BBQing, friends, family, fireworks and perfect weather. You can't ask for anything more! I even got a little color! I'm such a simple person - seriously. Brett and I headed down to the beach and went swimming in the lake - the waves and the temperature was just perfect! I loved it!

I received this dress from Shabby Apple for review. It's a really great dress - I loved the red and white stripes for the fourth! The material was like t-shirt material, so it was so comfortable for scooting and walking around in all day long. It was a bit too long on me though, so I just rolled it up under the waist and belted it with my navy belt. If I wore it down, it wasn't long enough to be a maxi dress - just mid calf length and looked weird because I'm so short, but I found a really easy solution and it stayed up perfect the whole night!

(circo dress - c/o shabby apple | belt - thrifted | flats - urban outfitters)

I've introduced you to Peter a couple of times before - but if you're a new reader, Peter is a really great friend of Brett's and mine! When I first started dating Brett, I hung out with him and Peter constantly. This weekend was like a little flashback to four years ago when we'd all hang out downtown and hit up the fireworks, just us three. It was great to have him come stay with us for a couple of days! I love when we have visitors stay in the guest room!

We headed downtown to the perfect location to see fireworks. Brett's parents always lay out blankets and chairs the night before so that we have an awesome place to see the fireworks. I love that I live in a town where you can lay out blankets and chairs and leave them overnight and nothing is ever tampered with the next day. You walk along the boardwalk during the day and see everyone's stuff just laying out waiting for the fireworks. It's awesome! Of course, Grand Haven's fireworks are always great! Hope you all had a wonderful fourth of July!
