Sunday, we had some major thunderstorms and wind in West Michigan! It started Saturday with some rain, thunderstorms and lightning, so Sunday, Brett and I were thinking that the waves would be amazing. So we headed to downtown Grand Haven to check it out, and traffic was completely backed up and stopped on Harbor Drive, because so many people were heading down to the beach. We parked and walked down to the pier; it was so insane. The waves were huge; they were completely crashing over the pier. We took a walk along the pier and walked through like 3 inches of water the whole way and waves kept crashing up. At the very end, they hit the edge so hard and splashed up.
So we walked back, went to grab lunch and headed out to Muskegon. Went swimming right near the dog beach (so many dogs!) and the water was pretty warm and the waves were awesome! We headed back home and watched a bit of a movie, until all of a sudden we heard the wind picking up. We were both standing by the slider looking out, when our white patio furniture flew from one side of the deck to the other side of the deck! So we ran around the apartment, closing all of the windows and doors and then it hit. It was so insane! Leaves being blown off the trees, trees leaning sideways because the wind was so insane. Brett stood outside for a second and it looked like he was back on the ferry again, the wind was blowing so hard. Then it was done after five minutes. We decided to drive around and survey the damage (probably a dumb idea, because some people died doing this) Power was out everywhere, trees down in the middle of the street, branches, leaves, trees uprooted, everything down. We got some ice-cream downtown, met up with Peter and went down to city beach. And it was amazing.

The atmosphere outside was probably the most amazing I've ever seen. The water was a green color because the sky was purple. It was raining, but the sun was still out and setting. If you looked to the south, there was a huge rainbow in the sky. Lake Michigan was like bath water; it was so warm. Brett immediately took off his shirt and shoes and dove in. The whitecaps on the lake were gorgeous, the waves, the sky. Everything was seriously like a dream; it was so pretty. We walked along the shore picking up pebbles that were brought up by the tide. It was amazing. I could never live away from the lake. Plus the dunes protected us from the tornado that hopped over and hit Fruitport. It's so insane what the storm did! The news is having a field day.
