4th of July

Tonight was, again, amazing. I went to Grand Haven to meet up with Brett and Peter. We walked the pier, then headed back up and walked around downtown. We found a place on the grass to sit by everybody. The fireworks were amazing and I got some fun pictures.

After the fireworks, Brett drove my car back to GR and Peter followed us. It took us forever to get out of the traffic; Brett and I talked the whole way home.

Valentine's Day

So, you already know the love story behind our Valentine's Day, but you haven't yet seen the outfit I wore! Well, today is your lucky day. I received lots of compliments at work for my red tights! I felt super girly all day, which was so refreshing. With the cold temperatures, I've been feeling a little blah lately! The fact that it's still light out when I get home from work is like... a dream come true. My pictures are going to be 1000000x better now. Thanks, world!

So last weekend, Brett and I went to Ann Arbor for our Valentine's Day away. I have never been there before, so it was super fun to experience their downtown area! It's way cute! We shopped at Urban Outfitters, American Apparel and Ragstock... and I spent a little too much money. Eep. I just had to buy another color of this cardigan. Plus, I finally received victory because this one was on sale and only for $39! We also went on the hunt for a vintage photobooth (post to come!) and ate dinner at Seva and splurged on cupcakes at The Cupcake Station. So fun!

red tights - target | popcorn cardigan - urban outfitters
    return of the mack-rame belt - c/o modcloth | necklace - forever 21)

So the fact that spring is hitting is making me so happy. In one month, we'll be turning our clocks forward and the days will be pure bliss. I know sometimes winter is brutal, but oh my gosh, when spring starts to hit... it's like a miracle! You don't take a second of the warmth and sunshine for granted! I'm excited for the rest of February though. The Michigan blogger meet up and the fashion show is coming up at the end of the month and that will be so much fun! Life is good! ps; Thanks to all of my readers who signed up and supported INDIE! It was so fun this week putting on the conference and today was the last day. You can still sign up if you'd like... we'll be offering it as an e-course once it ends! Wee! (ps; thanks Elizabeth for being a blogger's best friend. I simply adore you.)

Trees of love

For Valentine's Day, Brett and I were walking through this wooded area... and all of a sudden... there were hearts all along the trees! I looked over at him as he swooped me up into his arms and gave me a passionate, romantic kiss. He whispered, "I love you, my wife." and we frolicked off into the forest... and lived happily ever after.

Hahaha, just kidding! I totally had you guys doing, didn't I? Okay, fine... "my wife" didn't sound right to me either. Well anyway, scratch that, and let me give you the real romantic married story. I walked into the kitchen when I got home from work and the kitchen table was missing! Of course, Brett led me to our sun room where the table was set for two with a fondue set and so many yummy items to fondue. We drank soda from wine glasses, fried up veggies and chicken (fake chicken for Brett!) and had so much fun! So for Valentine's Day, we "fondued" it!

I actually had a reader leave me a Facebook message saying she spotted this really cute area on her way home from work that had these hearts attached to the trees! So, of course, anything totally tacky, Brett and I scope out... and it was so cute. I loved it! So thanks to Mari for giving me a totally wonderful idea for an outfit post!

I hope all of you had (or are having!) a wonderful Valentine's Day! I'm stuffed on fondue-goodness and too many cookies from our work cookie potluck! I made fruit pizza... yum! So yummy. Ps; Do you follow me on Twitter?

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas, everyone! I hope your day was fantastic! We had a super wonderful day. We started with opening gifts with just the two of us! I got so many wonderful movies, comfy jammies, socks and lots of other goodies! We spent this morning with my family and went to his parent's house later on in the evening. I stuffed myself silly today.. so full right now! Here are a few snap shots of the day!

In all of the pictures we took today, I'm in some sort of pajamas. Haha! I just got this set from Brett - I'm sitting in pure comfort right now.. chomping down some Milk Duds and watching one of the movies I got, Easy A! Brett is like.. half asleep right now, half giggling at the movie. Hehe! If you haven't yet seen our two black cats, here they are! Sargeant Death and Ultra Mega; aka Sarge and Meg ;)

Good night, everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!

The Dierolf's 4th Annual Christmas Party!

Friday night, Brett and I held our 4th annual Christmas party! We had it at our friend Jeremy's house instead of our apartment this year. The majority of our friends live in the city, so it just seemed better. I work there, so it was super easy to just head there after work and get ready for the party. Plus, I don't care if people spill things on Jeremy's carpet. Hahaha, I'm evil. ;]

Since my Christmas spirit is non-existent this year, I didn't even dress up! I wore some black jeans and a flannel, ordered pizza for food instead of cooking and the only reason Jeremy's house was decorated was because my amazing husband showed up with tons of decorations. Thank goodness someone is feeling the holiday season this year! I mean, look at that sweater.. you really have to be feeling Christmas to wear that ugo thing!

I really did have a great time though. It was probably the best out of the four we've had - maybe it was because I didn't put so much time and energy into it to have fun? I don't know. It's been a super fun tradition - something we've done every single year since we've been married. I want to carry on the tradition for years. I can't believe next year will be the 5th annual. That's just insane.

There was definitely some male nudity (my husband was way too classy to participate) and some down-right belly laughs. That picture of Peter seriously cracks me up - we all had tears from laughing. We did our white-elephant exchange and I ended up with this horrendous golf-bag trash can with three boxes of mac & cheese. Haha! So awful.

So yeah, super great party this year. We have the best group of friends. I have so much fun. It's been really great because I've never really had a "group of friends" before that were all friends for years, so it's refreshing to stay friends with the same people and all watch each other change and get older. I wouldn't change these people for the world. Now I'm super excited to spend new year's eve with friends. I can't believe how soon the holidays are! Jeez!

Trick or treat

So it totally felt like Halloween on Saturday because that's when the treat-or-treat time was scheduled in our town. It's more fun when the Halloween festivities are on a weekend! We've been housesitting for Brett's parent's all weekend long, so we were able to pass out candy. Brett and I live right downtown in the historic district and we don't get any trick-or-treater's! It makes me sad, but it was great I was able to pass out candy at his parent's house this year!

I didn't want to spend too much on a costume this year, so Brett and I ran to the Halloween store and I picked up a broom and hat for $14! I received the dress in a swap with Eleanor from Bonjour Bbydoll and I thought it fit the "costume" perfectly! It's nice having so many pairs of crazy tights too. Plus, a little extra makeup and you've got a super cheap costume!

(dress - swap with bonjour bbydoll | vertical illusion tights - c/o modcloth
wedges - forever 21 | hat and broom - halloween store)

Brett and I did the usual Halloween festivites - ordered a pizza and watched a scary movie. After trick-or-treating finished up, we drove out to the city to hang out! We met up with our friends, Jeremy and Kait, and went over to a Halloween party. It was a pretty fun time - I loved stuffing my face on too much junk food and drinking cider. They had a costume judging contest and it was just great to sit around and hang out with good friends! Afterwards, we grabbed even more food at our local greasy diner. That's seriously my kind of Halloween!

Fourth of July

Fourth of July weekend was such a wonderful summer weekend full of scooting, swimming in Lake Michigan, beach time, BBQing, friends, family, fireworks and perfect weather. You can't ask for anything more! I even got a little color! I'm such a simple person - seriously. Brett and I headed down to the beach and went swimming in the lake - the waves and the temperature was just perfect! I loved it!

I received this dress from Shabby Apple for review. It's a really great dress - I loved the red and white stripes for the fourth! The material was like t-shirt material, so it was so comfortable for scooting and walking around in all day long. It was a bit too long on me though, so I just rolled it up under the waist and belted it with my navy belt. If I wore it down, it wasn't long enough to be a maxi dress - just mid calf length and looked weird because I'm so short, but I found a really easy solution and it stayed up perfect the whole night!

(circo dress - c/o shabby apple | belt - thrifted | flats - urban outfitters)

I've introduced you to Peter a couple of times before - but if you're a new reader, Peter is a really great friend of Brett's and mine! When I first started dating Brett, I hung out with him and Peter constantly. This weekend was like a little flashback to four years ago when we'd all hang out downtown and hit up the fireworks, just us three. It was great to have him come stay with us for a couple of days! I love when we have visitors stay in the guest room!

We headed downtown to the perfect location to see fireworks. Brett's parents always lay out blankets and chairs the night before so that we have an awesome place to see the fireworks. I love that I live in a town where you can lay out blankets and chairs and leave them overnight and nothing is ever tampered with the next day. You walk along the boardwalk during the day and see everyone's stuff just laying out waiting for the fireworks. It's awesome! Of course, Grand Haven's fireworks are always great! Hope you all had a wonderful fourth of July!
