Stairway to the beach

Are we really in the middle of August right now? It feels like we just started the month! I'm really looking forward to all of our autumn plans, but am still clinging onto these last few summer weeks! The end of summer is such a lovely yet bittersweet time in our town. I love how our little beach town comes alive with all of the tourists and summer activities!

Sometimes I feel like my outfits just plan themselves. I received this super cute sailboat bow from the lovely Johanna at Up a Tree Cup a Tea! I knew I had to head down to the water wearing this bow... and of course, there were so many sailboats out! It was perfect! You can purchase this bow... or another set of bows with vintage fabric I picked! I'll be styling those soon. She makes the sweetest items... and she's the sweetest girl.

This dress is from dee&ray! They are a new contemporary women's line created by Diana Ra. It's a great lightweight dress for hot summer days! I loved the cinched waist and buttons up the front. Their shop is coming soon... but you can still check out their fall collection!

Tomorrow I'll be guest posting over at Orchid Grey! I have a busy weekend ahead... a wedding on Saturday and a Tiger's game on Sunday. Now I'm super distracted by 'Coming to America' so I'm going to go watch the rest of it with Brett! Have a great weekend, everyone!

On the green grass

Helloooo! It's been a hop and a scotch since I last did an outfit post! Hm, did that even make sense? Probably not, but you know, that's how I roll. Mmmmmhmmmm. Anyway, yes. I'm hyper and distracted tonight! I'm sure you'll be able to tell by my crazy Tiek faces in these photos! Tiek faces, hehehe! If you've never met me, just know, I'm probably the weirdest, silliest person ever with my very own language, Tieklish. Oh boy!

These are the nights I adore being a fashion blogger. Perfect lighting, amazing temperatures, a pretty backdrop, a twirly dress, granny tapestry wedges, a mediocre hair day, a decent makeup day. All of those add up to a pretty great fashion blogger day, if you ask me! It's the troof. Plus, I'm feeling on top of it! I worked all day, then worked out at the gym afterwards, took outfit shots and here I am! Posting before 11 PM! Woot, woot!

The amazing Asian iCandy sent me over this dress to twirl about in! It's so pretty and unlike anything else I own. I love the sheer overlay, along with a built in slip underneath. I swear so many of my dresses are see-through and it's buggin. This is perfect... and I love the detailing at the top. I can only imagine the fun I'll have in this dress when autumn approaches. Crunchy leaves are my best friend. They smell good too.

Whelp, I just redesigned my Tumblr. I'm a slacker Tumblr user, but I figured I could start posting some stuff on there again. I was thinking of posting more weight loss/fitness stuff over there because I get a lot of comments and Formspring questions on it. Would you guys be interested in that? I'm seriously not the person to turn to for diet and fitness advice (my favorite food is chicken fingers and double fries) but I mean... I did lose 35 pounds. Gained 10 back, but you know... that's still 25 lost. And now I'm working on those pesky 10. (Bite me, 10!)

Coast Guard City

Last night, Brett and I headed downtown to set out our blanket for fireworks. The streets are lined with carnival rides, games and food. Ships sail into town for tours and we have the best fireworks display for the Coast Guard Festival! The locals head out a day early and set their blankets out on the grass. Neat, right?

We caught the most beautiful sunset when we were down there. It only lasted for about 15 minutes and was gone but it was so amazing! We grabbed some ice-cream, walked around the carnival and sat out on our blanket for a while watching the musical fountain. Ugh, I just adore summer.

I didn't even plan it, but this dress actually goes very well with the sky! I received it from Jupe Boutique and it's a perfect go-to summer dress. It almost looks like a floral pattern, but it's more like bursts of color! Almost like a fun painting or something!

Tomorrow is the big grand parade that goes right past our apartment! We have a BBQ in the front yard with lots of friends and family coming. Our downstairs neighbors also have people and it's just a huge party. Then we all hang out for the day until the big fireworks extravaganza tomorrow night! Eee!

The Blueberry Fields

Happy Thursday, everyone! I'm super excited for this upcoming weekend. We have friends coming to stay with us and we all have plans for our annual Coast Guard Festival! I'll have a fun post with some of the ships and festivities! This week flew by, but it was a great week. I've been dressing up everyday and it makes you feel so much better. Look good, feel good, right?

Our town is known for our blueberry fields. We have tons of you-pick fields and stands all along the main road. Brett and I ran into this field quick to take some photos... and I was naughty and kept stealing blueberries off the bushes and eating them. They were seriously so good! I couldn't resist snacking! Brett had to yell at me to stop so he could snap my photo. Haha!

I thought this dress felt very blueberry-ish! I received it last winter and wore it for a wintry photo session with Brett! It's so fun to see how you style items in different seasons. I should make it a point to style one item on the blog in each season and then round them up at the end of the year. These shoes were a gift from my darling friend, Veronika of Tick Tock Vintage. I absolutely love them and received so many compliments all day long!

I have one more post tomorrow and then I'm off for the weekend and will be back next week with fun Coast Guard photos! Hopefully, I'll be able to post some behind-the-scenes photos of a little shoot I'm doing on Sunday with a couple of other bloggers! Have a great weekend!

Fallasburg Village

Last weekend, Brett and I headed out to Fallasburg Village! For my birthday, he bought me an amazing book full of Michigan day-trips and weekend excursions. Plus a huge mounted map of Michigan so we can put pins in all of the places we've explored together! I was perusing the book and came across a "ghost town" just fifteen minutes outside the city, so we had to check it out!

We explored the Fallasburg Covered Bridge and just east of the bridge is the historic village! I was expecting to come out on the other side of the bridge and see abandoned homes, wreckage, lawns overgrown, but apparently some people still live in a couple of the houses! They have opened the schoolhouse and two other homes as museum sites. The village really does retain much of the rural charm it must have had almost two hundred years ago though!

My favorite weekend summer outfit... a loose fitting t-shirt, a longer length skirt and a pair of comfy flats! We've had hot weather lately and sometimes it's just exhausting to dress up in the heat. When we were exploring the village, we found this rope tied to a tree which, of course, kept us entertained for a while. I really can't describe our marriage. On one hand, we're an old married couple that goes on lighthouse tours... on the other hand, we are so easily amused by little kid things (like a rope dangling from a tree). Best of both worlds, perhaps?

I'm going to highlight every place we've explored in this book, so hopefully at some point in my life, the entire book is highlighted. Wouldn't that be neat? Thank you all for the amazing birthday wishes. I can't believe I didn't do a post to celebrate, but I've just been so swamped lately. Summer is such a busy time. I can't believe it's already August. If you haven't already, be sure to check out the cute drive-in video with Brett and I!

Back road home

I absolutely love driving our scooters along the back country roads to get to the city. There are little historic towns, farm houses, fields, old silos, winding roads, creeks and endless trees. It's just so pretty. If I had more time to commute, I'd take the back roads every single day. Brett and I were riding our scoots home from band practice tonight and stopped off along our way as the sun was setting. (Psst, yes I wear bicycle shorts under my dress as I scoot!)

Brett let the cat out of the bag yesterday and told me about my weekend birthday trip. I'm super excited. I love taking trips. Memories mean more to me than any single thing I own. I won't spill all of the details yet, but we have... a haunted lighthouse, waterfalls, turquoise blue waters and charming small towns to explore! In our hometown, we get to see the sun set every night on the coast, but where we're going, we'll see the sun rise on the coast!

Can anyone else believe it's the last week of July? I can't believe how fast summer is going. It feels like it just started. I have a bucket list of things I have to do before summer 'kicks the bucket'. The list is... go camping, jump off something huge into water (that's brett's contribution, of course), go to Mackinac Island, take an overnight scooter trip, tube on a river, go swimming in an outdoor pool and swim in huge Lake Michigan waves in August. Only a month left really to accomplish it all. Eeps!

I have a new giveaway tomorrow and a video to debut soon! Remember the sneak peek at the drive-in post? Well, I just saw the video and it's super cute. I'm really excited to share soon. We also got our mastered recording back for our band... which means, I will have music to post next week! We are so excited to finally share our music with you guys. I have a fun launch post coming up soon and you can pre-order our EP if you're interested! More details to come!

Sundial at sunset

Phew! I'm back to my regular outfit posting! I can't believe I haven't taken real outfit shots since early July. Do I look any different? Okay, yeah, I have curly hair! It has been so hot here with high humidity. Blowdrying is a living nightmare. Plus with swimming in Lake Michigan with friends over the weekend, I just let it go. It's been a super fun summer though! Summers in Michigan can't be beat.

We scooted down to the Grand Haven sundial tonight to grab some quick photos! I always love the rivers embedded in the entrance area to the musical fountain. We grabbed some ice-cream (I got non-fat frozen yogurt, trying to be good!) and went and played on the playground for a bit. I spun Brett super fast on this disc thing and I was cracking up so hard. He got off, with his hat sideways and walked away stumbling. Haha! Love that kid.

I absolutely love this lace top from andwhatelseisthere. I've been wearing it a lot lately, especially with floral skirts. I've been really wanting to try just wearing a bra underneath like a lot of bloggers are doing lately, but I just feel so riskay. Okay, I've gotten made fun of before for saying riskay. I say it on purpose. It's funny. Read definition number two at Urban Dictionary. Bite me.

In other news, I wanted to announce that I'm part of the Lucky Style Collective! I've been so excited about it for months and have been working away at a few different things for it. I can't wait to tell you guys about something super fun coming up with Lucky! Be sure to check it out and the other bloggers involved. I'm super lucky (get it? get it? aha!) to be working with such amazing ladies!
