The Grand River Watershed

So the first day it gets one degree above freezing, I'm out and about romping around in my t-strap heels and no socks. I'm definitely from Michigan. I swear I would be perfectly fine if the rest of March was anything above 32 degrees. I just don't want any more snow or ice or freezing temperatures. 35? 40? Is that asking too much? I definitely have spring fever. I even pulled all of my spring and summer clothes to the front of my closet. Muaaha!

Thank you to everyone for your sweet comments on Twitter regarding my tweet about our kitty! We have two kitties - brother and sister - Sarge and Meg (Sergeant Death and Ultra Mega, yes they were named while Brett was living in a house with 3 other guys...) and Sarge has been insanely ill all weekend. So Brett took him to the vet today and he has kidney problems and had something blocking his bladder so he couldn't go potty! So they had to empty his bladder, take blood work and they had to teach Brett how to give him fluids (with a needle!) So it's been a bummer day and he hasn't eaten in 3 days. The vet said that this week is critical, but if he can get through this week, he'll be fine.. so thank you all for sending thoughts my way. I appreciate it so much! I've been a wreck!

I'm just so thankful that the sunshine has been out lately. I actually can't complain. We've had a very sun-shining winter. I just hope spring does come in on time (12 days!) this year because I'm so ready. I'm super jealous of all of the southern girls taking pictures with the cherry blossom trees! Ugh, so pretty! I'm super jealous! I'm just ready to take road-trips and travel, and have picnics, and spend more than a few minutes outdoors, and ride scooters, and eat ice-cream on the boardwalk. All of that just sounds so perfect right now. That along with a healthy black kitty who runs to the door when you get home. :)

Valentine's Day

So, you already know the love story behind our Valentine's Day, but you haven't yet seen the outfit I wore! Well, today is your lucky day. I received lots of compliments at work for my red tights! I felt super girly all day, which was so refreshing. With the cold temperatures, I've been feeling a little blah lately! The fact that it's still light out when I get home from work is like... a dream come true. My pictures are going to be 1000000x better now. Thanks, world!

So last weekend, Brett and I went to Ann Arbor for our Valentine's Day away. I have never been there before, so it was super fun to experience their downtown area! It's way cute! We shopped at Urban Outfitters, American Apparel and Ragstock... and I spent a little too much money. Eep. I just had to buy another color of this cardigan. Plus, I finally received victory because this one was on sale and only for $39! We also went on the hunt for a vintage photobooth (post to come!) and ate dinner at Seva and splurged on cupcakes at The Cupcake Station. So fun!

So the fact that spring is hitting is making me so happy. In one month, we'll be turning our clocks forward and the days will be pure bliss. I know sometimes winter is brutal, but oh my gosh, when spring starts to hit... it's like a miracle! You don't take a second of the warmth and sunshine for granted! I'm excited for the rest of February though. The Michigan blogger meet up and the fashion show is coming up at the end of the month and that will be so much fun! Life is good! ps; Thanks to all of my readers who signed up and supported INDIE! It was so fun this week putting on the conference and today was the last day. You can still sign up if you'd like... we'll be offering it as an e-course once it ends! Wee! (ps; thanks Elizabeth for being a blogger's best friend. I simply adore you.)

Trees of love

For Valentine's Day, Brett and I were walking through this wooded area... and all of a sudden... there were hearts all along the trees! I looked over at him as he swooped me up into his arms and gave me a passionate, romantic kiss. He whispered, "I love you, my wife." and we frolicked off into the forest... and lived happily ever after.

Hahaha, just kidding! I totally had you guys doing, didn't I? Okay, fine... "my wife" didn't sound right to me either. Well anyway, scratch that, and let me give you the real romantic married story. I walked into the kitchen when I got home from work and the kitchen table was missing! Of course, Brett led me to our sun room where the table was set for two with a fondue set and so many yummy items to fondue. We drank soda from wine glasses, fried up veggies and chicken (fake chicken for Brett!) and had so much fun! So for Valentine's Day, we "fondued" it!

I actually had a reader leave me a Facebook message saying she spotted this really cute area on her way home from work that had these hearts attached to the trees! So, of course, anything totally tacky, Brett and I scope out... and it was so cute. I loved it! So thanks to Mari for giving me a totally wonderful idea for an outfit post!

I hope all of you had (or are having!) a wonderful Valentine's Day! I'm stuffed on fondue-goodness and too many cookies from our work cookie potluck! I made fruit pizza... yum! So yummy. Ps; Do you follow me on Twitter?

A snowy road

We are buried in snow right now. Well, at least we were. It was the most snow I've ever seen in my life! These pictures don't even do it any justice. It was madness. I had a snow day last Wednesday (an adult snow day, what?!) and Brett and I got all bundled up and went and played outside! Brett even dove off the roof... and didn't die! Haha! I have to admit... it was super fun. Walking in snow that comes up to your thighs is so hilarious. It was awesome to swing on the swing set and dive off into white fluffyness!

I was walking out of the work the other day and some lady gave me this totally ugly look and was like, "You have to be cold." And I was so nice and was like, "They're called sweater tights. They are actually much warmer than jeans!" (She was wearing jeans) and she was so surprised at my niceness and just walked off! I love snarky people. I'll show you up with my smile any day! So take this face...

Well, I'm over winter. The groundhog said we're to expect an early spring, so I expect him to live up to his word. I'm super bummed I won't be heading to NYFW this winter, but I'm really excited for the INDIE e-conference! I've been working my butt off on it... and I need to snag Brett tomorrow to help me with 2-3 video posts! I'm super excited. Well, I'm off! See you tomorrow for a fun post with a giant ... well, you'll have to come back and see! Or you could guess? Whoever gets it right wins... a goodie package! ;)

Snowshoeing through the woods

Is everyone prepared for the massive storms we are supposed to be getting? I'm not sure who is supposed to get hit, but I heard something like 29 states? Pure Michigan keeps calling it Snowmigeddon. My boss at work told me to be prepared to bring work home because I might not be able to drive in. Ugh, is it spring yet? I'm so ready. Maybe I'll be out posing in a huge blizzard? We'll have to see! At least January is over and we're one month closer to warmth!

This was our third and last little session of outdoor wintry shots with photographers, Bryan and Mae! By the time we got into these outfits and got our snowshoes on, the sun was out and it was such a pretty morning! A little bit deceiving though, because it was freezing and the sun didn't help with a tiny bit of warmth! I wasn't supposed to wear this green cardigan with this outfit, but I couldn't take it off!

    (cardigan - thrifted | regal boots - c/o wanted | plum tights - t.j. maxx | hat - scala classico
symmetrically pleased belt - c/o shop ruche | surprise birthday party dress - c/o modcloth)

It was so hard to walk in these older snowshoes! I could barely do it! My feet kept getting stuck under the actual snowshoe! I think it would be super fun though to go out in really deep snow sometime! There are so many winter activities I want to do before it all ends, but yet I'm ready to say goodbye. Anyone else feeling the same way? Maybe it's because I have to drive 70 miles a day.

Well I hope you all survive the storm if it hits you! Congrats to Annie and Josh on having a beautiful baby boy, Jacob! I'm so excited for them. I'm also really excited to hear news of Naomi and her husband's baby! Ah, so many babies! You'd think I'd have baby fever already! ;)

January: Photo recap!

Here are a few photos in a little recap! I'm thinking twice a month, or every other Friday, I'll do this! I really do feel like my life is measured by the month and what it provides.. weather-wise, holiday-wise or whatever. To be honest, although I'm loving life right now, I'm so excited for January to be finishing up this weekend. This month is too long! February is such a short little month, with a super fun little holiday in the middle and the promise of spring soon ahead. I'm super excited!

It has been a huge new year's resolution for me to start tackling those little things I want to do - one of them including reading books more often. Currently, I'm half way into Emily Giffin's Heart of the Matter. It's really good so far and I'm excited to get to the end. I force myself to hop into bed at 11 pm so I can read until 11:30 pm. Ever since I put myself on this schedule, I wake up so easily in the mornings!

This week, our band, took a little field trip over to Guitar Center. I have my heart set on a Telecaster and I'm pretty sure I'm going to soon trade in my acoustic for a tele to play in our band! I really want a mint-green one, but I can't seem to find one! Brett, Jesse and I played in the DJ room for a while - so much fun!

We have had some insanely cold temperatures lately! Brett and I were driving home from a movie last Sunday night and I had never seen my car thermometer get to the negatives before! So insane!

Brett and I had a silly afternoon playing with all of the icicles that are forming around our apartment. We opened up the window and snapped this off and Brett played air guitar with it in our living room. We are also saving an icicle in our freezer right now - so fun to bring those out in summer!

Our cat, Sarge, loves to be outdoors so Brett takes him out whenever he can. Even in the snow, he loves to explore and trudge through it - it's so funny to watch. Our rooftop is buried in snow right now with the biggest icicles ever! I love these two. :)

I've been obsessed with hazelnut creme coffee at work lately. It is so good! Usually I only like coffee in the winter, but I have to load it with cream and no-calorie sweetener. I just can't do black coffee!

And to finish off... a little detail of our elevator at work. I love little historic details in a building. Grand Rapids is full of them and I love that when companies renovate - they keep the charm alive. Have a great weekend, everyone!

A vintage sled

I have been so excited this week to show you guys our wintry session with photographers, Bryan and Mae! I loved all of your comments on our first shoot, Winter Evergreens! I just can't get over how great these photos turned out and what a lovely day we had for it. It makes me appreciate this crazy winter weather we get in Michigan! It's so easy to complain about it, but it truly is so beautiful! Each season here is so defined and unique. I love it!

Bryan and Mae found this gorgeous old vintage sled that I loved! We put a blanket on it and as soon as I sat down, I didn't want to get back up! They kept telling Brett to pull me down this hill and I was having a blast! Hehe - it made me totally forget how cold I was. I really need to do some sledding this winter!

    (jacket - t.j. maxx | flannel - target | navy tights - c/o lulu*s | scarf - younkers
regal boots - c/o wanted | do you really want to skirt me in print - c/o modcloth)

Usually I'm out in the cold wearing a dress and cardigan and showing you guys what I wear indoors, so it's really fun to show you a few outdoor bundled-up looks! I've been working tonight at purging my closet to round up some items for my shop I plan on opening by February. And Brett really burnt some popcorn and now I can't breathe... so I'm going sign off here. Ugh! Have a great Friday everyone!
