Francesca's Collections Grand Opening!

On Saturday, Francesca's Collections had their grand opening at Woodland Mall! I absolutely loved everything in the store from the layout, to the clothes, to the accessories... everything! I was able to meet Shanna, the store manager, and she was too sweet! I used my 20% discount to pick up a super cute heart-print dress and a new chunky belt!



As soon as we walked in, Brett was like, "This looks like the inside of your closet!" and I'm like what?! I wish! I could see myself wearing everything they had! Funky prints, fun colors, girly feminine pieces, lots of florals... yes, please! I'm actually inspired now... what if I turned a bedroom of our apartment into my entire closet and made it look like the inside of a boutique? That way, each morning, I could just go "shopping" in my own closet. What do you guys think?! ;)

Antwerp Fashion Show

In the coming months ahead, Brett has my every weekend booked with show after show of punk rock music (not complaining, I love music as much as he does!) but tonight he literally could not say no when I asked him to attend a fashion show with me! It was put on by Lamb, a local shop in Grand Rapids. It was called Antwerp: A Fashion Journey and had looks inspired by the Antwerp Six. The Antwerp Six refers to a group of influential designers who graduated from Antwerp's Royal Academy in the 80's. It was a fun theme; something totally fresh and unique!



Brett and I made a date out of it and ate dinner downtown. Then we headed over to The Bob where the show was being held! We had our own table and it was fun to sit and people watch. Being a fashion blogger and not knowing many fashion people here... it was interesting to see how many stylish people Grand Rapids holds. Who would have thought, right? I went with a borrowed dress from my lovely friend, Kate from Postcards From. It was the perfect amount of dressy + me combined. Velvet and floral... maybe a new favorite?

I'll be posting a lot this month and next, I'm thinking. I'm so behind. My closet looks like a tornado went through it and I have at least ten unopened packages of things I need to organize. Plus, I just spent way too much money at Forever 21 during the 100% proceeds to Japan day, so that package should be arriving any day. I'm officially on a shopping and food ban. Well... not all food, of course. Just too much food. Ban on too much food. Makes sense, right? Well, I better scurry off to bed. I have a lovely giveaway coming tomorrow from ThreadSence!

Spotlight 616: Get Involved!

Are you from the Michigan-area and looking to participate in a really fun fashion event? Spotlight 616 is looking to recruit hair stylists, make up artists, photographers and aspiring models for an upcoming event! It's all happening on September 30th, in the midst of Art Prize, in downtown Grand Rapids! Spotlight 616 is going to showcase an array of independent clothing retailers, models, photographers, hair stylists, make up artists - all local to the Grand Rapids area. It's not your typical fashion show. It's going to be stations of teams working in their own locations in a style battle format!


Each team will collaborate to style up five completed "looks" - one for each model over the course of one evening. The public will be encouraged to walk from station to station to observe what the teams are creating at any time. The audience will also have the opportunity to vote on their favorite look to determine the winning team. Style battling is a rising trend and I'm so excited to see Grand Rapids take part in it! When the time is up, the models will take part in a grand finale walk. There are prizes and more details at their website. If you're interested, be sure to get involved! Runway on Monroe

Runway on Monroe is a Michigan-based competition to find the best fashion designer in the area! Anyone could enter the contest and in April - the 20 finalists were named to show their line in the "Runway on Monroe" fashion show. The contest offered $5,000 for the winner and it's also exciting to be known as the best Michigan fashion designer! The contest was inspired by "Project Runway" and "American Idol" where they had a panel of judges to decide the winner. What a fun fashion event for Michigan! I love the quote by Alyssa Schutter, "The fashion industry is something that isn't thought a lot of in Grand Rapids. It's here. I just don't think the public realizes it."



I'm super excited to be contributing to the Michigan fashion community and to promote Michigan as a place to be and as a place to live. It's an exciting place for fashion because you have so many fashion possibilities with the wonderfully unique seasons and so much to be inspired by in our state. This competition is just another great way to build the fashion community here! The winner of the contest is also being flown out to LA try out for "Project Runway"! How wonderful would that be?!



I'm not impressed with my photos, but it was the best that I could do. Brett and I squeezed our way to the front because it was standing room only. I couldn't believe the turn out for the event. It was outdoors at Rosa Parks Circle right downtown and such a fun setting. I've never been to a fashion show outside before, so it was fun. Brett even said he had a great time! I'm so glad we are starting to do more events like this. A lot of these events were inspired by ArtPrize. I swear that competition changed our city!

I know I had a post a while ago talking about the Kendall's 5th annual fashion show, but I wanted to post about the meet up I'm trying to get together! Although many of my readers aren't from the Michigan area, I just wanted to inform everyone of the upcoming Kendall College of Art and Design's 5th Annual Bodies of Art fashion show! It's on Friday, March 19th at 8 PM! The reception starts at 6 PM. It's located at the Brassworks Building in downtown Grand Rapids on Monroe Avenue. There is also an after party! So come out, enjoy some really great and unique fashion and be in good company! Make sure you get your tickets early - they sell out insanely fast. Grand Rapids Fashion Week

Grand Rapids Fashion Week was a huge success and so much fun. My two very good friends, Brenna and Andrea came over to get ready. We listened to music, tried on different outfits and settled on these. It is so much fun having girlfriends who love fashion as much as I do. All of these photos turned out so amazing and I must credit Andrea; she did such a great job and I love her photography. This is Brenna; isn't she just stunning? Those dark eyes and her dark hair, gosh! It's so inspiring having gorgeous friends.



Brett got some shots of the three of us; they look so great. It sure doesn't hurt having super hot friends though either ;) Andrea (the one I always talk about and love) is on the right. She is seriously such an inspiration. Her style is so amazing, and she's the nicest, most amazing friend I could ever ask for.



Andrea got a couple of detail shots of my outfit. I was definitely inspired by Top Shop's collection. I was walking out the door and Brett was like.. "Why is your scarf under your belt?" and I was like, "Ugh, boys just don't understand!" Haha!



Brett was such a good sport for this whole thing; he always is. He untangled our necklaces, took photos of us, and even was a super sweetheart when Andrea took photos of us! Look at him, could I ever love anybody more?!



We got to downtown Grand Rapids and headed to Devos Place. Got our tickets, headed inside and walked around the convention. We signed up for lots of freebies (it'd be so lovely to win something!) and checked out all of the local boutiques who set up booths. I didn't realize how many boutiques Grand Rapids had! You could go shopping here, check out new items, and it was from places all over West Michigan. Loved it!



Then, after that, we walked around downtown getting a few shots. These were taken outside GRAM (Grand Rapids Art Museum) Such amazing scenery for photography, although it was freezing!









We went to TGI Friday's to grab a bite for dinner. Then we headed back to Devos for the runway show. It was a blast! I was just sitting there thinking how much fun I was having.We are so inspired now and want to find more fashion shows in the area. And we want to save our money to go to NY Fashion Week next year ;) How awesome would that be?

Amazing time! Afterwards, we walked to The BOB and ate a cookie skillet dessert and called it an early night. Loveeeee those girls; had such a wonderful day.

Friday, I drove out to East Lansing to spend the night with Andrea! She got me into this event, which I had no idea what to expect. It was seriously a blast; it was a social networking event, where these speakers all competed to win the audience's vote, and they had five minutes to give a presentation on whatever topic. I loved listening to each person talk about food photography, cash for clunkers, the food we eat, how to survive wedding planning, how to overcome hurdles in a wheelchair, etc.

There were even a few presentations about creativity and the new creative class that was so interesting! I definitely enjoyed myself and got to see Andrea in action; she looked so at ease taking photos and working. She's truly an inspiration. I also got to meet some super nice people. Tom, being one of the speakers, sat by me and kept me entertained while Andrea ran around!

Afterwards, I went to Andrea's apartment to stay the night. We stayed up until like 4 am chatting all night long. It was such a blast; I don't remember the last time I did that. She is such an amazing friend and person to talk to. I have such a hard time connecting with girls,
and I love her to death. She makes me feel so great. You just cannot say that about most girl friends, and she's always just been such a great friend and I absolutely love her to pieces. She is amazing. Her apartment was stunning. Seriously. I was in awe. I loved being at her place. It is just so amazing there.


Saturday, we woke up and went on a shopping spree. Went to American Apparel, Urban Outfitters, ate at Potbelly's right downtown and then drove out to the outlet mall and looked around for a while. Then we went out to Meridian Mall + looked around. Got a ton of walking and shopping in! I hadn't gone on an all day shopping expedition like that in such a long time and it was such a good time. I also got a soy pumpkin spice latte that was delicious and I splurged on a dress, new skirt, wedge heels + tights. Love that town and that girl.
