Snowshoeing through the woods

Is everyone prepared for the massive storms we are supposed to be getting? I'm not sure who is supposed to get hit, but I heard something like 29 states? Pure Michigan keeps calling it Snowmigeddon. My boss at work told me to be prepared to bring work home because I might not be able to drive in. Ugh, is it spring yet? I'm so ready. Maybe I'll be out posing in a huge blizzard? We'll have to see! At least January is over and we're one month closer to warmth!



This was our third and last little session of outdoor wintry shots with photographers, Bryan and Mae! By the time we got into these outfits and got our snowshoes on, the sun was out and it was such a pretty morning! A little bit deceiving though, because it was freezing and the sun didn't help with a tiny bit of warmth! I wasn't supposed to wear this green cardigan with this outfit, but I couldn't take it off!

It was so hard to walk in these older snowshoes! I could barely do it! My feet kept getting stuck under the actual snowshoe! I think it would be super fun though to go out in really deep snow sometime! There are so many winter activities I want to do before it all ends, but yet I'm ready to say goodbye. Anyone else feeling the same way? Maybe it's because I have to drive 70 miles a day.



Well I hope you all survive the storm if it hits you! Congrats to Annie and Josh on having a beautiful baby boy, Jacob! I'm so excited for them. I'm also really excited to hear news of Naomi and her husband's baby! Ah, so many babies! You'd think I'd have baby fever already! ;)

January: Photo recap!

Here are a few photos in a little recap! I'm thinking twice a month, or every other Friday, I'll do this! I really do feel like my life is measured by the month and what it provides.. weather-wise, holiday-wise or whatever. To be honest, although I'm loving life right now, I'm so excited for January to be finishing up this weekend. This month is too long! February is such a short little month, with a super fun little holiday in the middle and the promise of spring soon ahead. I'm super excited!



It has been a huge new year's resolution for me to start tackling those little things I want to do - one of them including reading books more often. Currently, I'm half way into Emily Giffin's Heart of the Matter. It's really good so far and I'm excited to get to the end. I force myself to hop into bed at 11 pm so I can read until 11:30 pm. Ever since I put myself on this schedule, I wake up so easily in the mornings!



This week, our band, took a little field trip over to Guitar Center. I have my heart set on a Telecaster and I'm pretty sure I'm going to soon trade in my acoustic for a tele to play in our band! I really want a mint-green one, but I can't seem to find one! Brett, Jesse and I played in the DJ room for a while - so much fun!



We have had some insanely cold temperatures lately! Brett and I were driving home from a movie last Sunday night and I had never seen my car thermometer get to the negatives before! So insane!



Brett and I had a silly afternoon playing with all of the icicles that are forming around our apartment. We opened up the window and snapped this off and Brett played air guitar with it in our living room. We are also saving an icicle in our freezer right now - so fun to bring those out in summer!



Our cat, Sarge, loves to be outdoors so Brett takes him out whenever he can. Even in the snow, he loves to explore and trudge through it - it's so funny to watch. Our rooftop is buried in snow right now with the biggest icicles ever! I love these two. :)



I've been obsessed with hazelnut creme coffee at work lately. It is so good! Usually I only like coffee in the winter, but I have to load it with cream and no-calorie sweetener. I just can't do black coffee!



And to finish off... a little detail of our elevator at work. I love little historic details in a building. Grand Rapids is full of them and I love that when companies renovate - they keep the charm alive. Have a great weekend, everyone!

A vintage sled

I have been so excited this week to show you guys our wintry session with photographers, Bryan and Mae! I loved all of your comments on our first shoot, Winter Evergreens! I just can't get over how great these photos turned out and what a lovely day we had for it. It makes me appreciate this crazy winter weather we get in Michigan! It's so easy to complain about it, but it truly is so beautiful! Each season here is so defined and unique. I love it!



Bryan and Mae found this gorgeous old vintage sled that I loved! We put a blanket on it and as soon as I sat down, I didn't want to get back up! They kept telling Brett to pull me down this hill and I was having a blast! Hehe - it made me totally forget how cold I was. I really need to do some sledding this winter!

And Brett really burnt some popcorn and now I can't breathe... so I'm going sign off here. Ugh! Have a great Friday everyone!

Old town

A couple of weekends ago, I went to visit my darling friend, Andrea, in Lansing! We had a little sleepover, chatted in bed, woke up to go shopping and grab lunch - exactly what we do best! I love staying at her place. It's just so perfect - an urban loft setting with no cat hair. Ugh, I envy that girl. We headed over to Urban Outfitters and I bought a couple of things! We also headed over to Forever 21, where I performed more damage. I actually bought some winter items though instead of spring which is nice because we still have like... 2 more months of harsh winter!



I felt like going casual for a day out shopping. Plus, it has been so cold lately that I'm alway stuck in an oversized cardigan. This one was only $2 thrifted! I really need to head over to Goodwill and do some more thrifting this upcoming weekend. I've been buying so many items for spring.. ugh, I cannot wait. The transitional seasons are the best time to style up outfits!

So, I scored $80 worth of services from our local Douglas J. Aveda institute today for only $40 via Groupon! I was so excited. I'm going to save it until I get down to my half way weight loss goal - which is really only 5 pounds away. As soon as I get there, I'm going to treat myself to an elemental nature facial, haircut and style and brow wax. I've never had a facial before and they give you all sorts of massages to go along with it. It's definitely making me work harder at getting to my goal!

Winter evergreens

I've been so excited to finally post these photos! A couple of weekends ago, Brett and I met up with two amazing photographers, Bryan and Mae (husband and wife to be!) We had planned on a wintry photo session with Brett and I and were so lucky to get all sorts of fun weather. We started the morning with a few blizzards and ended the session with sunshine. It was the perfect winter morning to spend outdoors giggling with Brett!



It was really fun to style up and plan outfits for an outdoor winter session. I knew I had to be creative, because I didn't want to wear my same ol' boring jacket for all three themes, so it was fun to dig into the back of my closet and come up with something I hadn't worn before! Let me say - a zip up hoodie, sweater tights and lace up boots are now my favorite winter go-to outfit. I loved wearing this!

I finally have my computer back and am so excited to blog my little tush off this week! I have enough outfit posts to last me until next week! So exciting! Plus, I finally mailed a bunch of Delightful Dozen items, so I'm feeling very productive today! I've been doing so much shopping lately. I have a ton of new clothes that I can't wait to wear - eee! I think I'm done shopping for winter though. I've been stocking up dresses for spring now. I cannot wait. Even considering how much I really love these winter photos. ;)



Brett was so lovely during this session. He's not at all used to being in front of the camera - he's my guy behind the camera! So it was totally natural for me, but I know it wasn't for him, so I totally appreciate him. I'll cherish these photos for a lifetime and will someday show my kids and grandkids! How fun is that?
